Jiefang shoes are the first pair of standard military shoes equipped by the PLA in the true sense. The evaluation of this pair of shoes is very controversial. It is also a military shoe produced in a special era when resources are very scarce.

Jiefang shoes were equipped in the early 1950s. They were first used to respond to the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. With the gradual recovery of the rubber industry in New China and the complex environment of the Korean battlefield, the traditional handmade cloth shoes of the volunteers must be transformed into Jiefang shoes.

Jiefang shoes played a vital role for volunteer soldiers. At that time, the combat boots of the U.S. and South Korean troops were very bulky, which was not conducive to long-term combat.

Since Jiefang shoes were in service, they have played a very important role in the PLA's previous operations, peacetime training, production labor and daily life.

The structure of Jiefang shoes is made of pure cotton material to make the upper and lining of military shoes, but they are very weak. It is normal for ordinary soldiers to wear out five or six pairs of Jiefang shoes a year.

At the same time, the breathability and moisture permeability of Jiefang shoes are very poor, and bacteria often breed. Many soldiers often suffer from foot odor after wearing them for a period of time.

Some soldiers got athlete's foot because of liberation shoes, which also affected the training of troops.

The advantages of Jiefang shoes are light and comfortable, low cost, and fast production. Soldiers wearing Jiefang shoes are convenient for long-distance marching.

The disadvantages of Jiefang shoes are not only poor air permeability and moisture permeability, poor waterproof performance, but also not puncture-proof and poor protection.

Although many improved versions were produced afterwards, as the battlefield became more and more complicated, Jiefang Shoes had completed its mission and exited the stage of history gloriously.
